Betty Buckley Recovering from Horse Riding Accident

Tony Award winner Betty Buckley, who will be seen later this summer in the Bay Street Theater production of the Tony-winning musical Grey Gardens, was recently injured in a horse-riding accident on her Texas ranch.

In an interview with WBAZ’s Walker Vreeland, the acclaimed singing actress said she fractured five vertebrae in her lower back after falling from her horse, which had lost its footing.

Buckley said her spine doctor is “quite positive and very optimistic” about her recovery, adding that she is “healing really fast.”

Buckley joked that she is fortunate Grey Gardens‘ Big Edie spends most of the play in bed. In fact, following the accident, the Tony winner emailed Grey Gardens director Michael Wilson and said, “I can’t believe the universe goes to such detail to try to prepare me for a part because there was no reason for this accident with this beloved horse of mine.”

Buckley told Playbill.com June 30 that the accident was nearly a month ago and she is healing rapidly. “It’s completely miraculous, actually,” Buckley said, although she is still a bit sore and proceeding cautiously.
